I wandered off the beaten path to Anavarza Castle. It was built in the 1st century on a limestone massif 200-230m high and 1500m long.
The climb up is a well worn but unmarked trail, sometimes with stairs cut into the stone. When you get to the top you are rewarded with stunning views of the snowcapped mountains to the north and the ruins of the Anavarza acropolis below.
We had the whole site to explore by ourselves. The echos of our voices blended with goats and sheep from around the valley. Bring water and enjoy.
